Journal Club on Demand - Update on Hydrogen Sulfide SIBO
Our understanding of SIBO continues to evolve as new research sheds light on the microbes behind different breath test profiles. In this 1-hour Journal Club replay (originally recorded October 2025), we explore groundbreaking findings from the REIMAGINE project — one of the first studies to directly link hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and methane (CH₄) levels with the actual microbial populations present in the small intestine. We discuss how these gases correlate with stool consistency, motility patterns, and IBS subtypes, and what this means for interpreting breath test results in practice. Most importantly, we consider how this emerging data advances our understanding of hydrogen sulfide and methane SIBO, while highlighting where evidence gaps still remain. A must-watch for dietitians supporting clients with IBS, constipation, diarrhea, and other functional gut disorders.
